Travel - Lola Bishop Whitney Scholarship

For travel, student must meet the following qualifications: 1) Delta College students who have demonstrated an interest in foreign language through their current courses at Delta College and/or prior high school foreign language studies should have 4 credits in foreign language or have been granted an exception; 2) Applicants must have successfully completed at least one year at Delta College; 3) Have a 2.5 grade point average or higher; 4) Discuss with a foreign language instructor how you would use the scholarship and the best way to develop your essay; 5) Recipients of the scholarship must maintain continuous enrollment (fall and winter semesters) at Delta College until the scholarship is used; 6) Write a 250 – 750 word essay and upload it to your application essay. In your essay, describe: a. Why you want to study in certain country or why you want to attend a workshop, conference, etc. b. How your chosen program, conference, workshop, etc. fits into your educational and career goals. c. If studying abroad, include commentary on how you will prepare or have prepared for studying abroad (e.g. cultural knowledge, language study, understanding the challenges of traveling, etc.); 7) Complete the Cost Estimate Form that is part of the application; 8) If chosen as a finalist, student must be willing to come to Delta for an interview; 9) Write a thank you letter to the scholarship provider (donor) within a few weeks of being awarded the scholarship; and Submit a “follow-up trip summary” a month after their travels; photos are encouraged; 10 ) Must list two references with their contact information: These references should be Delta College faculty or staff, but do not have to be foreign language instructors.

  7. If I receive this scholarship, I am willing to write a thank you letter upon getting the scholarship, and a trip summary report after my travels (this is due one month after your return).
  8. Please provide the name, email address, and phone number of *two* references. These references should be Delta College faculty or staff, but do not have to be foreign language instructors.
