Travel - S. Preston and Dr. Betty B. Jones International Scholarship

For travel, student must meet these qualifications: 1) Students applying for the scholarship must be a high school graduate and enrolled in an academic program leading to an Associate Degree at Delta College; 2) Student applicants must have successfully completed at least one year at Delta College, by the time of their planned trip; 3) Student applicants must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher; 4) Applicants for the scholarship will document an educational plan for academic study, field practice or work experience in another country to be accomplished as a result of the scholarship; 5) Preference in selecting a student applicant shall be given to those desiring to travel and study in developing countries internationally; 6) Recipients of the scholarship must maintain full time enrollment at Delta College during the year for which the scholarship is awarded; 7) Scholarships will be awarded to students who may or may not have financial need; 8) Write a 250 – 750 word essay and upload it to your application; In your essay, describe: a. Why you want to travel to a certain country. b. Your goals for studying abroad and how they fit into your educational and career goals; 9) Complete the Cost Estimate Form that is part of the application; 10) If chosen as a finalist, student must be willing to come to Delta for an interview; 11) Write a thank you letter to the scholarship provider (donor) within a few weeks of being awarded the scholarship; and Submit a “follow-up trip summary” a month after their travels; photos are encouraged; 12) Must list two references with their contact information: These references should be Delta College faculty or staff, but do not have to be foreign language instructors.
