Virginia Z. Morrison Scholarship
Virginia Z. “Ginny” Morrison was born on January 3, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri. Ginny received a journalism degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia. She met her husband, Ira George Morrison, when she was a college student. The couple had three children – Stephen, Charlotte and Janet – and five grandchildren – Gregory, Lindsay, Lauren, Ginny and Charles. Mr. Morrison worked for The Dow Chemical Company. The couple originally lived in California, until the family moved to Midland in 1955. They were married for 39 years before Mr. Morrison’s untimely death in 1982.
Mrs. Morrison, as a member of the American Association of University Women, assisted Delta College in establishing its journalism program when the College opened its doors in 1961 and also assisted for many years with Delta’s annual yearbook. She has volunteered for a number of organizations, including the Midland Public Schools, the Chippewa Nature Center, the Midland Center for the Arts, the Midland Community Foundation, the United Way of Midland County, P.E.O. International and The Monday Club. She also co-authored a book, “Building the Arts in Midland, Michigan from 1800 to the 1980s,” with Jan Jones and Dorothy Yates.
Mrs. Morrison enjoys reading, playing bridge, traveling and visiting with family and friends.
