Fettig Family Scholarship
The endowment is being established by Dr. Burt and Linda Fettig. Dr. Fettig was born and raised in Bay City, attended Bay City Central High School and Bay City Junior College. His parents resided most of their lives in Bay City with his father, George, retiring as President of First Automotive Inc., and his mother, Evelyn, retiring as Dining Room Supervisor at the Scottish Rite Consistory. A favorite aunt, Grace Fettig, was Registrar at Bay City Junior College in the early 1950s. Dr. and Mrs. Fettig were lifelong educators, with Dr. Fettig taking his first professional job as Youth Secretary at the Bay City YMCA, and he served in the military, taught in Pontiac, and accepted the position of Assistant Dean of Men at California University of Pennsylvania. The Fettigs were married in Pennsylvania, moved to Bloomington, Indiana where Dr. Fettig worked as a counselor at Indiana University (Bloomington) while completing his doctoral degree, and Mrs. Fettig taught in the area elementary schools and finished her master’s degree at Indiana. Upon completion of these degrees, they moved to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, where Dr. Fettig took a teaching and counseling position at Central Michigan University, and Mrs. Fettig taught in the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. In 1972, Dr. Fettig became Associate Dean of Students at Delta College and retired as Dean of Students in 1996, and Mrs. Fettig held teaching positions at Westdale and Hemmeter Elementary Schools in Saginaw Township Community Schools before retiring in 1999. Both were active in their professions and involved in a variety of community groups, and they know very well the need for a helping hand and wish to assist others to reach their educational and personal goals and aspirations.
